The Green by Design initiative builds on the Company's current environmental credentials to ensure companywide adherence and innovation in product design and manufacture.

“For Lotus Professional, sustainability has three dimensions - environmental, social and economic. The Green By Design® initiative addresses the environmental dimension with aim to strike the right balance within the three” says Pierre Pelekhine, EMEA Sustainability Director for Georgia-Pacific. The key principles behind the Lotus Professional Green by Design® programme will focus on the ability to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

  • Reducing paper consumption is at the core of the company’s environmental commitment, with product design focusing on encouraging people to minimise waste by making it easy to take only the amount of paper required. The company had launched several systems for years that can reduce paper consumption, thanks to single sheet dispensing or one time delay features.
  • Lotus Professional is committed to finding new ways to reuse the by-products of the paper making process. For instance, in all manufacturing sites more than 90 % of the water used in the Company’s paper-making and pulping processes is continuously reused.
  • Lotus Professional is focused on using recycled fibres where possible. Last year 80% of the paper used in Lotus Professional products was made from recycled fibres.

“In addition, we are also committed to bringing our manufacturing processes and distribution in line across Europe to minimise our environmental impact, while maintaining quality. For example, through innovation and by continually reviewing our processes, we have been able to reduce film thickness on our packaging on average by 14 percent since 2004.

“As a company we have made significant progress on minimising our impact on the environment but believe that the launch of the Green by Design initiative will help to bring the principles of the campaign front of mind for staff, customers and the wider industry.”
