Our sustainability strategy includes efforts to conserve resources by reducing our packaging where possible without compromising product integrity or quality. We drive innovation by using the minimum packaging needed to protect our products from damage during transport, distribution and storage, as we seek to balance these two demands. For example, by improving our processes, we have been able to reduce the thickness of the plastic wraps on our tissue products by an average of 14% since 2004.
Georgia-Pacific EMEA’s Away-From-Home business provides dispensing systems that enable paper consumption to be reduced up to 30%, thus reducing our customers’ environmental footprint (less waste generated in use). This results in less wood fiber use, less transportation costs, less manufacturing footprint, and less waste to landfill or sewer from used tissue products. All of those are improvement across all three dimensions – social, environmental and economic.
